President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) says the government plans to expand Taiwan's economy and support small and medium-sized businesses in 2023. Tsai spoke on Thursday at an event hosted by the Strait Exchange Foundation, a Taiwanese organization that handles business matters with China.
Tsai says the government has already attracted over 1,300 businesses to invest in Taiwan over the past four years. Those efforts have culminated in over NT$1.9 trillion (US$64 billion) of investment. She says she encourages Taiwanese businesses to scope out investment opportunities throughout the country, and the government will assist them in building their enterprises.
The president adds that China and Taiwan must share the responsibility of maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. She says she's willing to hold respectful and rational discussions with Beijing to establish terms and agreements that both parties can accept.
Tsai says the government is committed to helping entrepreneurs expand their businesses. She calls on the public to work together to help Taiwan advance its economy and build prosperity.
