Taiwan’s General Chamber of Commerce says the country should resume 16 direct flight connections with China and allow Chinese tourists to enter as long as medical resources allow it. That was the word from the chamber’s chairperson Paul Hsu (許舒博) on Wednesday.

Hsu says that Taiwan’s domestic consumption cannot make up for inflation and rising interest rates in international markets.

The chamber is planning a visit to China at the end of March to resolve problems through discussions. It says it wants to discuss food and agricultural exports to China, cultural and tourist exchanges, as well as finance and other topics.

Hsu says the chamber’s delegation would definitely meet with China’s Taiwan Affairs Office representatives and other officials at the “level that allows for solving problems.” But he says any concrete plans will be made only after the plenary sessions of China’s People’s Congress and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and the ensuing personnel changes.
