Taiwan to cancel indoor mask requirement for most places on Feb. 20
Masks will no longer be required for most indoor scenarios starting February 20

Masks will no longer be required for most indoor scenarios starting February 20, but will still be required on public transit and in healthcare facilities. That’s the official word from the Taiwan Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) who made the announcement on Thursday. School campuses of all types will still require masks indoors until March 6th.

The CECC said there are several scenarios in which masks will not be required but are recommended. These include being in crowded areas without proper ventilation, or when interacting with immunocompromised or elderly people. The center also said that if activities such as eating or taking photos are required in a place where masks are required, masks can be temporarily removed.

The new rules will likely come as a relief to many in Taiwan who have been living under the government’s mask mandate for more than 800 days.
