73% of German companies in Taiwan said they were content with their business performance in 2022, a historic high. Those numbers come from a survey of German businesses in Taiwan by the German Trade Office in Taipei. According to the office, trade between Germany and Taiwan hit a record high of US$23 billion in 2022. The survey showed that German businesses did not suffer greatly from the COVID-19 pandemic in Taiwan, with only 5.6% of businesses reporting lasting damages.

German companies did report some challenges from the global environment, however. 67% of those surveyed said that their operations were negatively affected by disruption in global supply chains. Cross-strait tensions were also a source of concern. Nearly one in four companies reported that cross-strait tensions had negatively affected their supply chains. Furthermore, there was an increase in businesses who view cross-strait tensions as a potential business challenge. 54.4% of businesses expressed this concern in 2022, a nearly 10% increase over the previous year.

The survey was conducted between December 9, 2022, and January 10, 2023 by the German Trade Office, and had a response rate of 36%.
