Taiwan’s Environmental Protection Agency is pushing to have office spaces and corporations adopt eco-friendly policies in their offices. The agency announced their new initiative at a press conference on Friday, as part of their promotion of Taiwan’s goal of reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
The agency says that for many people, the majority of their day is spent in the office, making them important spaces for reducing carbon footprints. There are a total of 35 measures in the initiative, including upgrading to more efficient A/C units, using LED light bulbs, and improving water efficiency and plumbing.
The agency says that since last year, companies participating in the agency’s initiatives have already made progress. They say these companies saved 330 million kilowatt-hours of electricity last year, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 78,000 households. They also saved 153,000 tons of water, equivalent to the daily domestic water consumption of more than half a million people. The agency says they hope that even more companies will join in their efforts moving forward.
