President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) says she hopes to see Taiwan and Belize work together to create a more resilient economy. Tsai was speaking on Tuesday while receiving the wife of the Prime Minister of Belize, Rossana Briceño. Briceño is in Taipei for an international forum on empowerment of women in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Tsai pointed out that Briceño has organized skills training and entrepreneurial counseling to empower women to become independent entrepreneurs. Since last year, Briceño has also been integrating efforts from all sectors to promote women’s and children’s rights in the Caribbean.

Tsai also thanked Belize for continuing to speak out on behalf of Taiwan in the international arena. She said that Belize’s Prime Minister John Briceño led his cabinet to pass a motion for friendship ties with Taiwan last May. In addition, Tsai noted that economic exchanges between the two sides have been growing and that she hopes that the two countries will work together to create a more resilient economy after the COVID epidemic.

In her speech, Briceño praised President Tsai for leading Taiwan to a prosperous future and for her vision for Taiwan as a model for international leaders. She thanked Taiwan for promoting women’s rights through mutual partnership and looks forward to continued cooperation in the future.
