Taiwan will resume accepting visa applications from Hong Kong and Macau residents for individual travel on February 20. The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC), Taiwan’s main China policy making body, made this announcement on Tuesday.
MAC Deputy Minister Liang Wen-chieh (梁文傑) says Taiwan is willing to resume the service because Hong Kong and Macau have been transparent about their COVID-19 prevention measures.
Liang says his office is assessing the current status of the pandemic in China before allowing Chinese tourists to enter Taiwan. Liang adds that China began allowing outbound travel for its people to 20 countries in January, but this list currently does not include Taiwan.
