President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) says Taiwan will increase the number of scholarships for students from St. Vincent and the Grenadines to study in Taiwan. Tsai spoke on Tuesday, when she met with St. Vincent and the Grenadines Foreign Minister Keisal Peters. Peters is visiting Taiwan to speak at a forum that focuses on empowering women in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Peters says she is honored to receive the invitation for this forum, especially as her country's first female foreign minister. She also says St. Vincent and the Grenadines will continue to show unwavering support for Taiwan.
In her speech, Tsai says Taiwan and St. Vincent and the Grenadines are deepening their relationship with each interaction. Tsai says over 200 students from St. Vincent and the Grenadines have studied in Taiwan since 2004. Tsai says Taiwan will increase the number of scholarships to increase cultural exchange between students.
She says both countries should also focus on rebuilding the economy and empowering women in the post COVID-19 era. Tsai adds that Taiwan will provide business-building resources and technical training to women from St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
