A journalist demonstrates how easy it is to retrieve the next round of stimulus payments in Taiwan. Simply enter your pin and health insurance numbers and NT$6000 (US$200) will be put into your hand. The payments will go to all Taiwanese citizens and permanent residents.
Many elderly prefer not to deal with ATMs and retrieve their stimulus payments directly from a bank counter. Elderly Taiwanese disproportionately use postal banking, and the post has announced that they have prepared to deal with large numbers of people coming to their counters to claim cash.
However, all banks need to prepare for the coming demand on their ATMs when stimulus payments are dispersed this spring. 25,000 ATMs from 12 banks have prepared to participate in the new distribution method, accounting for about 80% of all ATMs in Taiwan. No matter which method you choose, it seems claiming your free government cash will be easier than ever this time around.
