Today is the first day in Taiwan where people do not need to wear masks indoors after more than 2 years of being required to. Let’s see if people took them off on the first day.

Video script:

A seemingly ordinary day in Taiwan, but it’s actually the first day, February 20, when people do not need to wear masks indoors except for in healthcare facilities and public transport.

One customer said that she wanted to see what it felt like to not wear a mask  on the first day. She says it’s been a long time since we could go maskless indoors.

People in Taiwan have been wearing masks throughout the pandemic. For many, it’s become almost second nature to wear one.

One shopper says she’s gotten used to it and will keep wearing one for some time. Another customer says she’s going to wear them all the time. It’s a form of self-protection with the flu season and the norovirus going around, yet another customer said he’s not sure when he’ll be required to wear one so he just keeps his on.

The employees at this fast food restaurant are all wearing masks. That’s because many in the food industry require cooks and servers to wear them to protect the health of customers.

The supermarket’s PR manager says since there are so many customers, they want their employees to wear masks for their own protection.

Even with the loosening of mask rules, it looks like a lot of people in Taiwan still plan to wear them for some time.
