The Foreign Ministry says there is no concrete plan yet for President Tsai Ing-wen to visit the United States. That came from Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jeff Liu (劉永健) on Tuesday, adding that the government will inform the public at an appropriate time if there will be an official trip.
Liu also declined to comment on the recent Financial Times report that said Foreign Minister Joseph Wu (吳釗燮) will travel to the United States next week. The report adds that Wu plans to travel with National Security Council official Wellington Koo (顧立雄) and meet with top government officials.
But Liu did respond to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s recent meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi (王毅). Blinken stressed the importance of cross-strait stability, and Liu says Taiwan has a clear line of communication with the United States and understanding of its relationship with China.
The Foreign Ministry adds that the Biden administration has made multiple promises to protect Taiwan. The ministry says Washington’s actions demonstrate how much it values and supports Taiwan’s security.
