President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) says she hopes to see Taiwan and the United States expand cooperation in technology and security. Tsai was speaking on Tuesday while receiving a bipartisan US congressional delegation at the presidential office.
The president says Taiwan and the United States have continued to deepen exchanges in various fields. That includes the establishment of advanced semiconductor design under the framework of the Taiwan-US Science and Technology Agreement. The two sides have also cooperated in areas such as 5G communication and renewable energy under the Technology Trade and Investment Collaboration framework.
Tsai says Taiwan and the United States should seek more opportunities for cooperation and continue to defend the values of democracy and freedom. She says the two countries should work together towards economic recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Representative Ro Khanna of the US delegation says the group was fortunate to meet with the founder of Taiwan’s top contract chipmaker TSMC Morris Chang during their visit. Khanna says he’s glad they discussed how to further deepen economic partnership between the two countries, especially in terms of technology.
