Taiwan reported 7,577 COVID-19 cases on Monday, making it the first time Taiwan had under 10,000 daily cases in 307 days.

Monday saw the lowest number of cases since April 26, 2022 which saw 6,295 cases. Monday’s numbers are also 35.8% lower from a week earlier.

Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) spokesperson Lo Yi-chun (羅一鈞) said that the low number could be due to the long holiday weekend when people may not be testing for COVID. Another factor is that we are at the end of the third Omicron wave.  Lo said he expects to see more cases after the long weekend.

Taiwan has been loosening its COVID restrictions and canceled its indoor mask mandate for most places, except health care facilities and public transport, on February 20.

The CECC has stopped providing daily reports and press conferences on the details of COVID cases in Taiwan.
