Taipei Deputy Mayor Lee Shu-chuan (李四川) is attending the G-NETS Leaders Summit, an environmental sustainability conference in Tokyo. Lee is attending on behalf of Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安). He arrived on Monday by taking the world's first hydrogen-powered ferry.
Lee says the hydrogen ferry can potentially be used in places like Liuqiu Island to reduce carbon emissions. He says the emissions can be cut almost in half by using hydrogen fuel.
Lee spoke at the forum about Taipei's plan to reach its net-zero carbon emissions plan. He will also exchange ideas with leaders from other cities and release a joint statement on Wednesday.
As part of his visit, Lee also attended the City-Tech. Tokyo, an event that aims to create sustainable cities through tech startups. He was joined by creators and investors from Taiwan and across the world.
