Taiwan has been ranked fourth in the world in terms of economic freedom. That’s according to the US-based conservative think tank the Heritage Foundation. Taiwan’s performance in the 2023 ranking is its best in history.
On Thursday President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) met with foundation chairman Edwin Feulner. Ranking only behind Singapore in the Asia Pacific, Tsai says Taiwan will continue to strive to build a free and open economic environment. The president also mentioned that Taiwan and the United States have reopened trade and investment dialogue in recent years.
Feulner says he has worked with Taiwan’s presidents during his 37 years as chairman of the foundation and promoted the Taiwan Relations Act. The act is the foundation of US-Taiwan relations in the absence of official ties between the two sides.
Feulner praises Taiwan’s performance to become the fourth freest economic environment under Tsai’s leadership. He adds Taiwan has high-level support from all parties in the United States.
