Taiwan’s new Kaohsiung Port Cruise Terminal welcomed two cruise ships on Monday. The terminal is shaped like a whale and has become a new landmark for the southern port city.
The terminal opened on Monday and is big enough for the world’s largest cruise ships to dock. On its first day, the terminal welcomed ships from the Regent Seven Seas Cruises and Westerdam.
At the opening, Premier Chen Chien-jen (陳建仁) said Kaohsiung hosts the biggest port in Taiwan, which welcomes 70% of Taiwan’s shipping containers. It’s also one of Asia’s major shipping hubs. The new cruise terminal can allow 2,100-3,500 people to enter every hour.
Chen said he believes the Kaohsiung Port Cruise Terminal and the Kaohsiung Pop Music Center will be the pride of the city and become popular destinations in Asia.
