Taiwan is looking to loosen more COVID rules as cases drop. Taiwan saw 6,928 COVID cases on Monday, marking the lowest number of cases since April 26, 2022.
Monday’s number was almost a 9% drop from a week ago, which saw 7,577 cases. There were also 152 imported cases and 45 deaths reported on Monday.
The country also removed its mask mandate for schools on Monday. Students do not need to wear a face mask in classrooms in schools at all levels. This includes kindergartens, preschools, and cram schools. But they will still need to wear masks in health centers on campus and when taking school buses and shuttle buses. Taiwan lifted its indoor mask mandate for most places on February 20, with the exception of public transport and health care facilities.
Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) spokesperson Lo Yi-chun (羅一鈞)says more COVID related rules will likely be loosened later this month. These include not requiring those with mild cases to report or be quarantined and changing requirements for medical personnel’s protective gear.
