St. Lucia’s Foreign Minister Alva R. Baptiste has brought a delegation to Taiwan to build collaborations between the two countries in a variety of fields. The delegation arrived in Taiwan on Monday and will visit for five days.
This is Baptiste’s fourth time visiting Taiwan. He says the two countries have been working together for a long time to create a better future. Baptiste says Taiwan and St. Lucia’s relationship is founded on the shared values of democracy, freedom, and human rights.
The delegation also includes Youth Development and Sports Minister Kenson J. Casimir and Senator Lisa C. Jawahir. The St. Lucian officials will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文), Foreign Minister Joseph Wu (吳釗燮), the Taiwan External Trade Development Council and others during the visit.
St. Lucia resumed official relations with Taiwan in 2007 and remains one of Taiwan’s 14 diplomatic allies. The two countries have worked together in the fields of medical care, agriculture, education, tourism, women’s rights and more.
St. Lucia has also supported Taiwan’s participation in international organizations, and Batiste has written letters to the WHO, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and INTERPOL advocating for Taiwan’s inclusion.
