Taiwan is working to keep Chinese radio broadcasts from spreading pro-China content in Taiwan. That was the word from Premier Chen Chien-jen (陳建仁) on Tuesday, in response to reports of Chinese programs picked up on radios in Hsinchu and Miaoli counties.
The Chinese programs broadcasted messages that encouraged Taiwanese youths to go start businesses in China and promoted a “united front” in the cross-strait region. Chen says the government will address the issue and decide on consequences for the broadcast violations.
The premier adds that the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) and other related officials will work on managing the reception of Chinese broadcasts.
Council Minister Chiu Tai-san (邱太三) says in the past, radio stations in Kinmen and Matsu counties would frequently pick up on broadcast signals from China’s Fujian province due to its proximity. Chiu says authorities will consider the signal strength of the broadcasts and confer with others about how to handle their reception on Taiwan’s main island as well.
