Taiwan’s air and ground forces are conducting a military exercise at the Joint Operations Training Base in Taiwan’s southern Pingtung County.
Taiwan’s domestically-produced IDF jet roars overhead and releases flares to simulate jamming enemy missiles.
Soon after, a Bell Kiowa helicopter strikes the side of a mountain with missiles and gunfire.
These lethal weapons are taking part in the ongoing Lien Yung exercise at the Joint Operations Training Base in Taiwan’s southern Pingtung County.
Alongside aircraft, artillery units were also seen training at the site. A wide array of self-propelled guns, mortars, howitzers, as well as fighting and amphibious vehicles attracted a lot of attention from local military enthusiasts.
One man says he was impressed by the spectacle and by the soldiers’ determination to practice under the harsh, beating sun. Another says people should eagerly support the armed forces.
Parts of the exercise took place on Tuesday night, with flares illuminating targets for guns, mortars and Javelin missiles.
Taiwan’s armed forces say they maintain a spirit of readiness despite not seeking conflict.
