People in Taiwan can register for a NT$6,000 (US$195) stimulus payment beginning Wednesday March 22. The website https://6000.gov.tw went online on Monday.
Eligible recipients include Taiwanese citizens, foreign nationals with permanent residency, resident spouses of Taiwanese nationals and personnel stationed overseas by the Taiwan government and their dependents who are Taiwan citizens.
Online registration for the handout will be staggered according to the last number of one’s ID card or Alien Resident Certificate. Those with cards ending in 0 and 1 can register on March 22; those with cards ending in 2 and 3 can register on March 23; those with cards ending with 4 and 5 can register on March 24; those with cards ending in 6 and 7 can register on March 25 and those with cards ending in 8 and 9 can register on March 26.
People can have their money wired to their account but it will only be done five days after the legislature passes the bill and the president makes a formal announcement. People can also choose to receive their money at a Post Office counter or via ATM machine.
