German Education Minister Bettina Stark-Watzinger has led a delegation to Taiwan to discuss collaboration in terms of technology and education. The delegation arrived on Tuesday, marking the first time in 26 years that a German minister has visited Taiwan.
Stark-Watzinger intends to meet with National Science and Technology Council Minister Wu Tsung-tsong (吳政忠), Education Minister Pan Wen-chung (潘文忠), and Digital Minister Audrey Tang (唐鳳) over the next two days. The delegation plans to discuss working together in the fields of semiconductors, renewable energy, batteries, and Mandarin language learning.
A German Press Agency report says the delegation’s trip is an important step for Germany to initiate research and development collaborations with a valuable partner like Taiwan.
The report adds that the German Education and Research Ministry says Taiwan is a trustworthy and reliable partner in education, research development, and digital policies. The ministry also says Taiwan and Germany share common values and uphold peace, freedom and human rights.
