Tuesday marked a big day for Czech-Taiwan relations. The Czech parliament’s lower chamber speaker Markéta Pekarová Adamová delivered a speech to an assembly of Taiwanese lawmakers.
This marks the first time a female parliamentary leader of a non-diplomatic ally has spoken at the legislature. Adamová says Czechia will continue to stand with Taiwan no matter what the future holds.
Legislative speaker You Si-kun (游錫堃) said the Czech delegation’s visit is a symbol of mutual support between democratic countries. He said Taiwan and the Czech Republic’s freedom is invaluable in the face of authoritarianism.
Adamová arrived in Taiwan on Saturday with a delegation of over 160 people, the largest exchange between the two countries. Her delegation consists of government officials, academics, and business leaders.
If all goes to plan, these meetings may result in stronger Czech-Taiwan ties, especially in terms of economics and trade.
