President Tsai Ing-Wen (蔡英文) says she is looking forward to providing more opportunities for Belizean women to grow their careers and businesses. Those remarks came as Tsai attended an exhibition on the Enhancing the Economic Empowerment of Women Project on Tuesday.
The exhibition highlighted various women entrepreneurs and displayed the progress of this project. The vendors present at the exhibition sold a wide array of products, including clothing, accessories, food, drinks, and more.
Tsai says the statistics reflect the support Belizean women, children, and families received as a result of collaboration between Taiwan and Belize. Some vendors gifted Tsai their handmade products to demonstrate the strong relationship between the two countries.
Taiwan started collaborating with its Latin American and Caribbean allies on the project back in 2021. As of today, Taiwan has helped over 700 Belizean women with creating their businesses and providing necessary technical skills. It’s estimated that over 2,000 people benefited from this project.
During the visit, Tsai also shared progress on achieving gender equality in Taiwan. She says representation of women in different industries continues to grow. Over 40% of Taiwanese legislators are women and over 37% of small and midsize businesses are owned by women.
