A group of 12 environmental groups convened on Friday in Taipei for an annual conference. The organizations include the Taiwan Environmental Protection Union, The Society of Wilderness, Taiwan Academy of Ecology, among others. The environmental groups met to debate and discuss issues related to climate change. Their findings will be combined into a report to be presented to various government branches.

Legislators from four different political parties attended the conference to show their support. Taiwanese scientist Lee Yuan-Tseh (李遠哲) gave a speech at the conference focused on climate change and the future of humanity.

In his speech, Lee said that people have continually polluted the environment since the industrial revolution. He said if people do not urgently respond to climate change, humans will disappear from planet Earth.

The conference released a list of the most important priorities for this year. The priorities include implementing a carbon tax, elevating the status of the Environmental Protection Administration, and passing ocean protection legislation.

During the event, the conference presented awards to three individuals for their long-term work opposing nuclear power. The conference has given out this award each year since 2017.
