Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (TSMC) has refused to accept US subsidy restriction conditions. Economic Minister Wang Mei-hua (王美花) said in a meeting on Monday that she hopes that this matter will not affect industrial cooperation between the two parties.
DPP Legislator Chen Ting-fei (陳亭妃) said during the meeting that the relationship between Taiwan and the United States is currently at its best in history. She said Taiwan’s government should provide industrial backing and communicate with the United States.
Wang adds that Taiwan has the support of US congressmen from both parties, pointing to President Tsai Ing-wen’s (蔡英文) recent meeting with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. She says Taiwan and the United States are currently conducting negotiations on the US-Taiwan 21st Century Trade Initiative.
The minister says the United States is Taiwan’s most important partner in tech components, such as 5G and electric vehicle parts, due to its large market. Wang adds that long-term cooperation in the tech industry has helped Taiwan develop and it must seize opportunities to deepen bilateral cooperation.
