Taiwan shipped over eight tons of fruit to Japan on Monday, with more deliveries to follow.  Tainan agricultural products debuted at the Tokyo Food Fair earlier this month, and Japan is now preparing to put Taiwan’s produce on its shelves.

Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) invited business owners to Japan to participate in the Tokyo Food Show in early March. Among them, Midori no Makiba Gakuen Ranch won the bid for the first export order less than one month after the exhibition. The shipment includes pineapple puree, cut pineapple and mango, custard apples, passion fruit juice, and other products.

Huang says the first fruit delivery is just the beginning and there will be eight more shipments in the near future. He says the marketing results at the Tokyo Food Show are a "triple win" for consumers, exporters, and farmers.

The Agriculture Bureau says besides maintaining existing channels for export sales, it is actively developing new markets. The bureau adds that last month’s exhibition showed Tainan farmers’ and manufacturers’ superb cultivation and processing techniques, and it will help Taiwan’s agricultural products expand into overseas markets.
