President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) says China’s military drills surrounding Taiwan show a lack of responsibility for regional stability. Tsai made the remarks on Tuesday, four days after returning from her trip to visit Taiwan’s Central American allies.

In response to Tsai’s trip, which included transit stops in the United States, China led three days of military exercises around the island. Tsai has thanked Taiwan’s military and coast guards for their timely response and professionalism during this period.

The president says Taiwan’s military and national security team are working together to ensure the country’s safety. Taiwan’s legislature has also released a joint statement condemning China’s military actions, which it says violates the UN Charter.

Tsai says Taiwan must remain united and cannot be swayed by the spread of false information. She adds that even though the recent Chinese military drills have ended, Taiwan’s defense and national security forces will remain on high alert.
