Marshallese Foreign Minister Kitlang Kabua intends to lead a delegation to Taiwan on Wednesday to discuss trade and climate change. Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that it welcomes the delegation’s visit, which will last until April 18.
The Marshall Islands is one of Taiwan’s 13 diplomatic allies, and the two countries have been official partners since 1998.
The delegation plans to meet with President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) and Foreign Minister Joseph Wu (吳釗燮). Representatives from the two countries also intend to sign a trade agreement and a memorandum of understanding regarding a climate change fund.
The Foreign Ministry says the Marshall Islands have advocated for Taiwan’s participation in international organizations like the UN and the WHO. The ministry adds that the Marshall Islands and Taiwan have worked together to make progress in public health, clean energy, education, and female rights.
