A Canadian parliamentary delegation has arrived in Taiwan and will meet with several high-ranking officials to promote cooperation between the two countries. The multi-party delegation is composed of several top lawmakers in defense and foreign affairs, including the parliament’s national defense committee chair, John McKay.
The delegation will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) and Vice President Lai Ching-te (賴清德), among other politicians. It will also meet with business leaders, local organizations, and the Canadian Trade Office in Taipei.
McKay affirmed Canada’s support for Taiwan when he visited the legislature on Monday. Canada’s support comes as Taiwan faces rising tensions with China regarding the island’s sovereignty.
Legislative Speaker You Si-kun (游錫堃) thanked the Canadian delegation for its encouragement. He says the two countries share the same values, and he looks forward to further collaboration in the future.
