President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) helped christen a new community care center in Taichung on Friday by attending its opening ceremony. In a speech, Tsai says the government will continue to provide care and expand resources for people with disabilities.

The care center was opened by Lain Shin Yuan Social Welfare Charity Foundation, a local non-profit organization in Tainan. The Foundation focuses on providing services for people with mental and physical disabilities.

At the ceremony, Tsai thanked the Foundation for expanding its service location to the southern district of Taichung city. She says the center will serve as a care facility, allow people with disabilities to develop vocational skills, and increase interactions among community members.

Tsai says the government has always emphasized providing care for people with disabilities. Tsai says, in addition to the recent NT$6,000 (US$195) stimulus payments to Taiwanese citizens and residents, she will also look into the post-pandemic recovery budget to provide more resources. She added that since 2016, community service centers in Taiwan have grown from 542 to 913 locations.

Tsai says she encourages people with disabilities to utilize these community resources, and she hopes to collectively build a more inclusive environment for all.
