Vice President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) says he hopes France and Taiwan can build stronger economic ties by signing free trade agreements. Lai spoke on Tuesday while meeting with a French delegation at the Presidential Office.

The vice president says economic cooperation and mutual trust can help countries face security challenges together. He says he is glad to see French and Taiwanese companies in the semiconductor and wind power industries are already working together.

Lai thanked France for advocating for the importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait while attending international conferences like the G7 summit. He adds that the Taiwan Strait’s stability relates to the world’s sustainable development, and he hopes France will give even more support in the future.

The vice president says France and Taiwan both value democracy, freedom, and equality. He adds that he hopes democratic countries can stand together with Taiwan against authoritarianism so the world can develop peacefully.
