China has conducted an unannounced military drill at the Yellow Sea, a marginal sea between mainland China and the Korean Peninsula. The drill started on Tuesday at 9 a.m.
Defense Ministry spokesperson Sun Li-fang (孫立方) says the ministry is monitoring the exercises and will make further announcements if needed. Sun says the Yellow Sea drill appears to be a scheduled internal exercise that only lasted 3 hours within a relatively small area.
In response to news reports about the United States sending more than 200 military advisers to Taiwan to help train its military on the ground, Sun says Taiwan and the U.S. are working on deepening and widening defense collaborations. Sun declines to give more details.
When asked about the purchase of 400 anti-ship missiles from the U.S., Sun says the arms sale is made possible thanks to the national security wing, the defense personnel, and the Foreign Ministry. Sun adds that the weapons will be delivered on schedule.
