Strengthening Taiwan and Japan’s relationship will help stabilize the Indo-Pacific region. That’s the word from Taiwanese diplomat Chen Chung-chen (陳忠正) when he attended an international forum held by the Taiwan Japan Academy on Friday. The forum discussed research analyzing the changing landscape in the Indo-Pacific region and East Asia.

Chen says Taiwan and Japan are connected by their history, geography, culture, and economy. He says the foreign ministry's goal is to ensure stability and peace in the Indo-Pacific region. Other officials also spoke at the forum to share their opinions.

Japanese Representative to Taiwan Izumi Hiroyasu says Taiwan and Japan’s relationship are increasingly important given the current state of global affairs.

President of the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy Huang Yu-lin (黃玉霖) says current international trends show democratic values are facing serious challenges. He says Japan supporting Taiwan will help with maintaining peace and stability.

Legislator Kuo Kuo-wen (郭國文) says Japan’s Taiwan policy should encompass tactical response. Kuo says Japan and Taiwan should discuss humanitarian relief and evacuation plans in the event of war.
