A French Senate delegation has arrived in Taiwan to meet with top officials and visit some of the country's important economic and cultural institutions. The delegation arrived on Monday and will stay until Friday.
The French Senate’s Taiwan Friendship Group chair Alain Richard is leading the delegation, which includes four other senators. This is Richard’s fourth time visiting Taiwan, and his group is the second French delegation to visit Taiwan in the past week.
Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry says Richard’s delegation will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文), Premier Chen Chien-jen (陳建仁), Legislative Speaker You Si-kun (游錫堃), and other high-ranking officials. It adds that representatives will discuss the geopolitical situation in the Indo-Pacific region, Taiwan’s democratic and human rights values, and cooperation in trade and the semiconductor industry.
The ministry says the frequent French delegations demonstrate the two countries’ commitment to democracy in the international community. It adds that China continues to threaten Taiwan in ways that damage peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
