The Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics says March’s unemployment rate is about 3.6% in Taiwan, the lowest record for that month in 23 years.

While this rate marks a positive record for March, the unemployment rate has actually risen 0.03% since February. Deputy Director Chen Hui-hsin (陳惠欣) says the slight increase is mainly due to the ongoing wave of job changes after the New Year holidays.

Chen also says the report shows 195,00 people did not reach the statistics threshold of 35 weekly working hours. She says this figure relates to economic factors like seasonal business lows and the inability to find full-time jobs.

Chen adds that the current unemployment rate is comparable to the situation before the COVID-19 pandemic, and the government will closely observe rates in the future.
