The labor ministry is aiming to ease Taiwan’s labor shortage in the hotel and construction industries by providing incentives for both employers and employees. The plan was laid out alongside a post-epidemic labor report which was passed by the Executive Yuan on Thursday.
The one-year plan includes several measures which will run on a trial basis. These include incentives for boosting new hires as well as subsidies for providing post-employment training. Overall, the NT$1 billion plan is expected to lead to 20,000 new hires.
Under the plan, construction workers can receive an incentive of NT$6,000 per month for project-based jobs, and up to NT$9,000 for jobs in remote areas. Middle aged and elderly workers will receive NT$10,000 per month or NT$13,000 in remote areas, for a maximum of 12 months. Additional incentives encouraging part-time work will be added as well.
The plan further aims to encourage employers to organize training for its employees, with subsidies of NT$5,000 to NT$15,000 per person.
