Taiwan will assist young people with revitalizing their hometowns. That’s according to President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) speaking on Friday at the National Development Council's (NDC) forum on regional revitalization.
Tsai says young people are the engines of local revitalization and the government is the gear that keeps the machinery running. She says improving the local communities will transform Taiwan for the better.
The NDC invited the founder and other members of the Japanese organization Inspire, which is focused on local revitalization, to join the forum.
Premier Chen Chien-jen (陳建仁) was also in attendance. Chen says Taiwan and Japan share a lot of commonalities, and therefore can collaborate well on regional revitalization efforts. He says he hopes the entire Asia continent’s regional revitalization efforts will eventually improve through such joint efforts. He adds every individual in Taiwan is capable of enacting change and creating a better future for the country.
Head of the NDC Kung Ming-hsin (龔明鑫) says, since the regional revitalization initiative began in 2019, around 950 projects are being carried out. He says this year around 60 teams will be able to receive a NT$300,000 (US$10,000) award to start their projects.
