Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry has affirmed the United States and the Philippines’ joint statement that advocates for the peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. The ministry expressed its support on Tuesday, a day after U.S. President Joe Biden and Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. met in Washington.
The Foreign Ministry says China has been escalating its threats against Taiwan since last year. It adds that Beijing’s coercion challenges regional security and is also a concern to the international community.
The ministry points out the recent U.S.-Philippines joint statement reiterates similar comments from both countries after their 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue in early April. During the dialogue, the United States and the Philippines stated that maintaining stability in the Taiwan Strait is a matter of global interest.
The Foreign Ministry says it will continue to work together with like-minded partners like the United States to uphold democracy and maintain regional peace, stability, and prosperity.
