Taiwan and Israel signed a working holiday agreement on Wednesday evening, the 18th time the two sides have signed such a deal. This was also the 32nd bilateral cooperation agreement signed between Taiwan and Israel, according to the foreign ministry.
The document was signed by Taiwan representative in Israel Abby Lee (李雅萍) and Israel Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei representative Omer Caspi. The foreign ministry said the effective date of the agreement will be announced after the two governments complete their respective internal procedures.
According to the agreement, the two sides will provide up to 200 locations per year for which people aged 18 to 30 can apply for one-year working holiday visas. The program’s aim is for participants to get to know and appreciate each other's culture through real-life experience.
The foreign ministry says this year marks the 30th anniversary of the Taiwan-Israeli relationship. They add that the two countries not only jointly value youth exchange programs, but also share universal values such as democracy, freedom, and human rights.
