President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) spoke on the phone with Paraguay’s President-elect Santiago Peña on Friday and congratulated him for winning the election. She also thanked Peña for his continuous support for Taiwan and his strong stance to maintain Taiwan-Paraguay relations.
Tsai says she looks forward to seeing prosperity in Paraguay and closer relations between the two countries. She says the two countries’ diplomatic relationships are already built on a solid foundation. She adds they are strengthening cooperation in agriculture, public health, education, and electric transportation.
Tsai says she met several young Paraguayans when she visited a local electrical vehicle manufacturer in Taichung a few days ago. She says she hopes to strengthen personnel training and exchanges between the two countries through educational programs.
The call lasted around 20 minutes, and Foreign Minister Joseph Wu (吳釗燮),National Security chief Wellington Koo (顧立雄), Vice Foreign Minister Alexander Yui (俞大㵢), and Deputy Secretary-General to the President Chang Tun-han (張惇涵) were all present.
