It is almost summer, which means many in Taiwan will be heading to the ocean. Taiwan has some great diving spots, and divers traveling to Green Island may just be lucky enough to capture a rare sight.

Video script:

The ocean is full of wonders, such as this “barracuda tornado” recently captured on video by divers. Thousands of barracudas were spotted swimming in a clockwise direction, forming the illusion of an underwater tornado. This rare sight was spotted in the waters just 50 meters off the coast of eastern Taiwan’s Green Island.

One diver says he used to see this sight only when diving abroad, but he is excited to see this phenomenon near Green Island.

While this sight is breathtaking, don't let your guard down because barracudas are infamous for their fearsome appearance and ferocious behavior. Barracudas are scavengers and can attack at high speeds.

A marine researcher cautions divers to remain alert around the school of fish as there have been reported cases of barracudas attacking onlooking divers. He says divers can take photos, but they should maintain a safe distance.

With proper safety guidelines in place, local citizens are hoping rehabilitation projects will help preserve these barracudas and promote tourism, bringing in more people to see these amazing natural sights.
