Taiwan plans to upgrade the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in preparation of reaching the 2050 net-zero emissions goal. The Cabinet has proposed an environmental act which will raise the EPA to a government ministry.
The new ministry will adjust and strengthen existing strategies combating pollution control and also focus on preventive management. It will collaborate with departments specializing in climate change, recycling, chemical substance management, and the National Environmental Research Institute.
DPP lawmaker Hung Sun-han (洪申翰) says he’s glad to see that the government is finally upgrading the EPA, after more than 20 years of discussion.
