President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) says strengthening information security will also improve Taiwan’s industrial development. Tsai spoke on Tuesday at the ninth annual CYBERSEC expo in Taipei, which focuses on cybersecurity worldwide.
The president says the government strongly values information security, and authorities have been working on legal measures to strengthen information security management. She also says Taiwan established a National Institute of Cyber Security in February, and it will continue expanding its expertise in the field.
The theme of this year’s CYBERSEC is “Bring Security to”. Tsai says cyber security needs to extend beyond Taiwan to the rest of the world to encourage cooperation and digital security on a global scale.
Many officials attended the opening ceremony, including American Institute in Taiwan Deputy Director Jeremy Cornforth and former U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano. The event will run until Thursday at the Nangang Exhibition Center in Taipei.
