The Health Ministry will implement its new pediatrician system in all 22 counties and cities across Taiwan. It announced on Tuesday that the program is now available to all children on the island, including those in rural areas.

The pediatrics system launched a trial run in 2020 in some areas of Taiwan, allowing parents to easily find a physician for personalized health management without additional costs. The program assists every child up to three years old with medical referrals, dental treatments, vaccinations, diagnosis, and treatment.

Parents can choose to join the program at participating primary care institutions, where a physician will act as the child’s medical caretaker and regularly review their physical and behavioral development. The pediatrician will also provide health information and consultation required at each stage of growth. If developmental delays or issues arise, they can also assist with referrals and, if necessary, arrange home visits so that resources can reach every family in need.

Health Minister Hsueh Jui-yuan (薛瑞元) says he hopes the pediatrics system will be expanded in the future, so that healthcare can be provided for every child.
