Foreign Minister Joseph Wu (吳釗燮) thanks the United States’ support for Taiwan’s participation in the World Health Assembly (WHA).

Wu is responding to the U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s statement on Tuesday encouraging the World Health Organization (WHO) to invite Taiwan to participate as an observer at this year’s WHA meeting. Wu says he welcomes such a statement that affirms Taiwan’s expertise and commitment in public health.

Wu says he hopes to see more like-minded countries support Taiwan’s participation in the WHA. He adds Taiwan is fully prepared to share its distinctive experience and expertise with the decision-making body of the WHO.

The WHA is scheduled to hold its annual meeting from May 21 to 30 in Geneva, Switzerland to discuss global health priorities. Blinken says the U.S. “ strongly encourages” the WHO to invite Taiwan to participate as an observer at this year’s WHA meeting.” He adds inviting Taiwan “...would exemplify the WHO’s commitment to an inclusive, ‘health for all’ approach to international health cooperation.”
