Belgian senator Julien Uyttendaele reaffirmed Belgium's unwavering support for Taiwan during his visit to the legislature on Wednesday. Uyttendaele says Taiwan should participate in all international conferences, especially the World Health Assembly. He is part of the Belgian senate delegation that's visiting Taiwan this week.
During his speech at the legislature, Uyttendaele commented on the turbulent situations in Asia and Europe, including the Russia-Ukraine war and China's military drills around Taiwan.
The Legislature's Vice President Tsai Chi-chang (蔡其昌) expressed his gratitude for Belgian parliament's overwhelming support to pass a 2020 resolution, which called on the Belgian government and European Union to support Taiwan's democracy and strengthen bilateral relations. He also thanked Belgium for supporting Taiwan to be included in international meetings.
Tsai says both Taiwan and Belgium share the values of democracy, rule of law, and equality.
The delegation of Belgian senators will be in Taiwan until May 19.
