President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) says she hopes Taiwan will become a more diverse society filled with love. Tsai shared her remarks in a Facebook post on Wednesday, which is the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia.

Tsai says, since Taiwan legalized same-sex marriage four years ago, more people were able to start a family protected by law. She also notes the progress Taiwan has made on advancing LGBT rights.

Taiwan moved to recognize transnational same-sex marriages in January. On Tuesday, Taiwan's legislature voted to legalize same-sex adoption. She thanks the legislators for their bipartisan support towards the amendment.

Tsai says each bill passage marks a starting point. She says she hopes children that grow up with love will be able to push back against any forms of discrimination and ostracization. Tsai also says that Taiwan is a democratic and free country, so she hopes people will be able to tolerate each others' differences to make Taiwan a more diverse society.
