According to a survey released by online job bank Yes123, 69% of the workforce feel that workplace culture emphasizes face perception. The survey was released on Wednesday for Face Equality Day, which advocates against discrimination based on appearances. Respondents included 1,206 members of the workforce and 958 corporations.
The survey also found that 39% of the companies sent out interview invitations based on the appearance of job applicants' resume photos, and 27% hired people based on their looks.
When asked if corporations are willing to adopt a hiring method where a photo is not required in the process, 83% of the respondents said they would be willing to try.
The online job bank's spokesperson Yang Tsung-pin (楊宗斌) says the results of the survey show that the looks play an undeniable part in one's hiring and promotion. Yang says more companies should implement "blind hiring," making sure that all prospective employees are treated with respect and fairness during job interviews.
