Vice Foreign Minister Alexander Yui (俞大㵢) is leading a delegation to Paraguay to congratulate Paraguay’s President-elect Santiago Peña and Vice President-elect Pedro Alliana. Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry announced on Thursday that Yui is traveling on behalf of President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) to demonstrate the importance of Taiwan-Paraguay relations.
The ministry says Yui attended a banquet on Wednesday local time, and that Yui has invited Peña to visit Taiwan to discuss future collaboration opportunities.
Taiwan and Paraguay have been diplomatic allies for almost 65 years. Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry says it is currently planning the details of Peña’s visit to Taiwan. It says the government also has plans to attend the inauguration ceremony of the new Paraguayan president, and the ministry will announce the details once they are set.
